ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਸਾਕਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਹਰ ਸਾਲ 21 ਫਰਵਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖ ਨਾਨਕਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਕੈਲੰਡਰ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਿਭਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਪਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਘਟਨਾ 1921 ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਪਾਤਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਜਨਮ ਸਥਾਨ, ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਅਸਥਾਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਾਪਰੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ, ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਇੱਕ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਮਹੰਤ, ਨਰਾਇਣ ਦਾਸ ਦੇ ਕੰਟਰੋਲ ਹੇਠ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਦੁਰਵਿਵਹਾਰ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਵਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਠੇਸ ਪਹੁੰਚਾਈ ਸੀ। ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲਹਿਰ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੁਧਾਰਕ, ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਬਹਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਨਿਹੱਥੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਹਿੰਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਵਚਨਬੱਧ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, 21 ਫਰਵਰੀ, 1921 ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਬੇਰਹਿਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਹਮਲਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਤਲੇਆਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ (ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ) ਨੇ ਸਮੁੱਚੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਪੰਥ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਜਨਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਯਾਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਭਾਈ ਲਛਮਣ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਕਈ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ, ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਅਸਾਧਾਰਨ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਅਤੇ ਅਟੁੱਟ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਇਰਾਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਲਹਿਰ ਨੂੰ ਗਤੀ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਭ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟ ਨਿਗਰਾਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਮਿਲੀ। ਇਹ ਦੁਖਾਂਤ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਮੋੜ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ, ਜੋ ਧਾਰਮਿਕਤਾ, ਨਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਵਚਨਬੱਧਤਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ।
ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਸਾਕਾ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਨਾਲ ਮਨਾਇਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਦਿਨ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰਤਾ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕਦਰਾਂ-ਕੀਮਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਗਈਆਂ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਇੱਕ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਯਾਦ ਦਿਵਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਏਕਤਾ, ਲਚਕੀਲੇਪਣ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਉਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ 1921 ਵਿੱਚ ਨਨਕਾਣਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ।

Shaheedi Saka Sri Nanakana Sahib
Shaheedi Saka Sri Nankana Sahib is observed every year on February 21 according to Sikh Nanakshahi Calendar, commemorating one of the most painful and defining moments in Sikh history. This tragic event took place in 1921 at Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sri Nankana Sahib, the sacred birthplace of 1st Patshahi Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Nanak Sahib Ji. At the time, the gurdwara was under the control of a corrupt mahant, Narain Das, whose misconduct deeply hurt Sikh sentiments. Peaceful Sikh reformers, motivated by the Gurdwara Reform Movement, went to reclaim the gurdwara and restore its sanctity. Despite being unarmed and committed to nonviolence, they were brutally attacked and massacred on February 21, 1921.
The Shaheedi (martyrdom) of the Sikhs at Nankana Sahib shocked the entire Sikh Panth and the broader public. Among the most remembered martyrs was Bhai Lachhman Singh, who, along with many others, displayed extraordinary courage and unwavering faith even in the face of death. Their sacrifice strengthened the resolve of the Sikh community and gave momentum to the Gurdwara Reform Movement, ultimately leading to the liberation of historical gurdwaras from corrupt custodians. The tragedy became a turning point in Sikh history, symbolizing the community’s steadfast commitment to righteousness, justice, and the protection of sacred institutions.
