ਬੇਅੰਤ ਸੇਵਾ ਭਗਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ (ਬਰਸੀ)

ਭਗਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਇੱਕ ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾਵਾਦੀ, ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਾਜ ਸੁਧਾਰਕ ਸਨ, ਜੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਿੰਗਲਵਾਰਾ ਦੀ ਸਥਾਪਨਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਜਾਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ — ਇਹ ਬੀਮਾਰਾਂ, ਲਾਚਾਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਅਸਮਰਥ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਆਸ਼ਰਮ ਹੈ। 4 ਜੂਨ 1904 ਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇਵਾਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਮੁੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਡੂੰਘਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਅਪਣਾਇਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਈ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਨਾਮ ਇੱਕ ਅਪਾਹਜ ਬੱਚੇ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਲਈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਨੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਦੇਹਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ (ਲਾਹੌਰ) ਦੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਛੱਡਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਲੱਭਿਆ। ਉਸ ਪਲ ਤੋਂ, ਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਲਾਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਈ ਸਮਰਪਿਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਬਿਨਾਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਜਾਤ, ਧਰਮ ਜਾਂ ਮਜ਼ਹਬ ਦੀ ਪਰਵਾਹ ਕੀਤੇ।
ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਨਾ ਤਾਂ ਕੋਈ ਔਪਚਾਰਿਕ ਤਬੀਬੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਧਨ-ਦੌਲਤ, ਭਗਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਥੱਕੇ ਸੇਵਾ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਹ ਅਕਸਰ ਇੱਕ ਲੱਕੜੀ ਦੀ ਰੇੜੀ 'ਚ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਿਮਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਘੁੰਮਦੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੇਖਭਾਲ ਉਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੰਮ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਾਨ ਰਕਮਾਂ 'ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬਿਲਕੁਲ ਸਧਾਰਣ ਜੀਵਨ ਜੀਊਂਦੇ ਸਨ। ਸਰਕਾਰੀ ਮਦਦ ਤੋਂ ਇਨਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਕਾਇਮ ਰੱਖੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ, ਦਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਫਰਜ਼ ਦੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਨਾਲ ਭਰਪੂਰ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਸਿੱਖੀ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਾ (ਨਿਸ਼ਕਾਮ ਸੇਵਾ) ਦੇ ਜੀਵੰਤ ਉਦਾਹਰਣ ਬਣੇ।
ਸਮਾਜਿਕ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ, ਭਗਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਦੇ ਹਿਮਾਇਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਤਪਾਦਕ ਲੇਖਕ ਵੀ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣਕ ਮੁੱਦਿਆਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਸਚੇਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਆਮ ਚਰਚਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਵਾਤਾਵਰਣ ਦੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਅਤੇ ਨੈਤਿਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਈ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਮਿਲੇ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ 1979 ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਪਦਮ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਸਨਮਾਨਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਪੱਖ ਰਹੇ। 5 ਅਗਸਤ 1992 ਨੂੰ ਭਗਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਦੇਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਪਰ ਉਹ ਪਿਆਰ, ਸੇਵਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਿਕ ਸਰਗਰਮੀ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਤ ਵਿਰਾਸਤ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ।

Bhagat Puran Singh (Commemorating Endless Sewa)

Bhagat Puran Singh was a selfless humanitarian, environmentalist, and social reformer, best known for founding Pingalwara in Amritsar, a home for the sick, destitute, and mentally challenged. Born on June 4, 1904, in Rajewal, Punjab, he embraced Sikh values deeply. His life's mission began in earnest when he took responsibility for a disabled child named Piara Singh, whom he found abandoned outside Gurdwara Dehra Sahib (Lahore). From that moment, Puran Singh dedicated his life to serving the helpless, with no concern for caste, creed, or religion.
Despite having no formal medical training or wealth, Bhagat Puran Singh worked tirelessly, often pushing a wooden cart with Piara Singh and other ailing individuals he cared for. He relied entirely on public donations and lived in extreme simplicity, refusing government aid to maintain the independence of his mission. His work was grounded in humility, compassion, and a fierce sense of duty, making him a living example of seva (selfless service) as taught in Sikhism.
Beyond his social service, Bhagat Puran Singh was also an environmental advocate and a prolific writer. He raised awareness about ecological issues in Punjab long before they gained mainstream attention, publishing literature about environmental conservation and ethical living. He received several honors during his lifetime, including the Padma Shri in 1979, but he remained indifferent to accolades. Bhagat Puran Singh passed away on August 5, 1992, leaving behind a powerful legacy of love, service, and spiritual activism.

ਨਿਤਨੇਮ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਗੁਟਕਾ ਧੰਨ ਧੰਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਾਪੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੋ ਜੀ । ਨੋਟ: ਇਸ ਗੁਟਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀ ਅਤੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਭਾਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਹਨ।
